From Barcelona with Love: The Design Story of AMOR
Designing AMOR was not just a project; it was a love letter. A love letter to Barcelona, to Catalan modernism, to the genius of Gaudí, and to the idea that spaces can make you feel something profound. From the very first conversation, the vision was clear: create a space that transports you, that tells a story, that feels like stepping into a dream of a Spanish street at dusk.
The inspiration came from wandering the streets of Barcelona, from marveling at how color lived so easily on its walls, how architecture wasn’t just about function but about emotion, about creating moments of wonder. Gaudí taught us that beauty doesn’t have to be perfect to be profound, that curves are more inviting than straight lines, that materials should be honest and tactile, that design should be playful, joyful, alive.
We started with the color palette—a Catalan sunset. Orange terracotta that glows like embers, twilight sea blue that evokes the Mediterranean at dusk, and ambered ochre that feels like sunlight trapped in stone. These aren’t just colors; they’re emotions, memories, moments captured and translated into a space. The colors shift with the light, creating a space that feels alive, that changes throughout the evening, that never feels static or boring.
The materials were chosen for their warmth and their imperfections. Brick, plaster, timber, iron, glazed tiles, and mosaic—materials that age gracefully, that tell stories through their textures, that feel warm and inviting under your fingertips. We wanted the space to feel lived-in, loved, like a place that’s been there forever, even though it’s brand new.
The architectural elements are soft and flowing. Curved arches guide you through the space, creating a sense of journey, of discovery. Softened thresholds blur the lines between different areas, inviting you to wander, to find the corner that speaks to you. There are no harsh lines, no cold corners—just a gentle flow that feels natural, organic, almost inevitable.
At the heart of the space stands our decorative metal olive tree, its branches reaching upward, a symbol of heritage, patience, and the slow, steady growth of something beautiful. The olive tree is a reminder that the best things in life take time, that beauty is found in the journey, not just the destination. And then there’s our trencadís mosaic bar, a shimmering echo of the sea, where broken tiles come together to create something whole, something stunning. It’s a nod to Gaudí’s belief that beauty can be found in fragments, in the unexpected, in the playful collision of color and form.
The lighting was designed to flatter, to create intimacy, to make you feel like the most beautiful version of yourself. It shifts throughout the evening, adapting to the mood, to the energy, to the moment. During dinner, it’s soft and golden. After ten, it becomes more dynamic, more playful, more alive.
Designing AMOR was about creating a space that doesn’t just look beautiful, but feels beautiful. A space that makes you want to linger, to explore, to come back again and again. A space that tells a story, that creates memories, that becomes a part of your own love story.
